'Baby Booties' - Baby Shower Cake

...this cake was requested, as a gift for the parents of baby Grace. The specs for this cake were; a mini-cake, pink, and cute. Oh, and that the mother has coeliac's disease (intolerance to gluten) and it was needed in 48hrs :)  All other details were left to me - which I love! - so I thought I'd try my hand at the a variation of the baby booties; baby Mary Jane's!

so, the cake...
...because the cake had to gluten free I had to make some adjustments to the cake. This meant several trial cakes were needed to produce a delicious gluten-free milk chocolate mud cake with milk chocolate buttercream between each of the four layers - yum! As a dietitian, it was really nice to be able to offer a cake that had been altered to accommodate a person's particular dietary requirement... made me miss my other passion!!

...the topper was handmade using sugarpaste. This was the most time consuming part of the cake as I first had to design a template. Fortunately I had a pair of my daughters baby shoes on hand!

...the only other feature on the cake was the standing bow, just to finish. I REALLY enjoyed this cake and learnt a lot whilst doing it! I cannot wait to give these adorable little shoes another go.
